Kurt Strand was born in 1963 in Narvik, Norway, as a son of a merchant ship captain . His father Kjell Strand traveled around the world through his job and passed it on to his son. His mother Norma Strand raised Kurt and his older brother and sister in a house at the coast of the Atlantic ocean. The northern part of Norway, where Kurt grew up, has long and cold winter. From the age of 3 he experienced skiing and became later a ski instructor. He also was into alpine ski racing and wanted to become world's best alpine skier. At the same time the ocean caught his interests and he figured out that his passion is more in boating than in skiing. From the age of 8 he began building model boats. His dream was to become the world's best boat designer.
Kurt started his career in Norway as a technical draftsman. His passion for creating things out of wood was not enough, so he moved to Sweden for a special education in construction engineering. At the stage of a construction technician, Kurt became an offer from a big Swedish boat builder. Since more than 25 years he has been working with boatbuilding and high end wooden interior design and production.
In 2002 when Kurt was sitting at the beach in the Canary Islands, looking over the water, he had a divine inspiration, telling him to create his own brand “STRAND CRAFT”. Coming back to Sweden, Kurt started right away to launch the brand with the first built boat called “Little Miss Sweden”. This beauty was the start for more exceptional boats designs from STRAND CRAFT.
His brand “STRAND CRAFT” has become world famous over the last years for it's outrageous daring yacht concepts.
All successful projects commence with the clear understanding that the most important people are the clients. After all, a yacht is a platform for the enjoyment of the people whom use its many features and its purpose is to provide pleasure and relaxation and this experience should begin with the initial concepts and discussions. The most important quality apart from creativity is the ability to listen.
We at Kurt Strand Design listen and work with the client to firstly understand the individual needs and expectations of every client to develop a brief and sketch ideas to collect the client’s dreams and expectations.
It is the ability to understand the client’s individual needs and to think with similar thoughts and ideas that our design team is respected and renown for within the industry.
